Ajayi Culpable as Aston Villa hands Sam Allardyce bitter West Brom debut

Semi Ajayi played all 90 minutes in Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The Baggies hosted Aston Villa at the Hawthorne in Sunday’s premier league match, just few days after Allardyce replaced sacked Slaven Bilic.

Ajayi and his teammates went into the match with the hope of getting the maximum points in order to boost their chances of survival.

However with just five minutes into the match, West Brom conceded the first of the game after slack defending allowed Anwar El-Ghazi to convert a pass from Bertrand Traore.

It went from to bad worse for West Brom as captain Jake Livermore was issued a straight red in the 37th minute.

Livermore lunged in on Grealish on the touchline, went over the ball and caught his Villa counterpart high on the shin.

The challenge initially yielded a yellow card from referee Martin Atkinson but, after being instructed to consult the pitch side monitor, it was upgraded to red.

Villa made their numerical advantage count towards the end of the match and scored two late goals.

Traore scored the second, before El Ghazi got his second of the game after Ajayi bundled Grealish over in the area three minutes from time.

The Dutchman made no mistake from 12 yards with a drilled effort down the middle to put the seal on an impressive Villa performance.

West Brom remain 19th with just seven points from 14 matches.
