Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi made a cameo appearance as West Bromwich Albion beat Southampton 3-0 at the Hawthorns on Monday.
Ajayi was surprisingly named among the substitute by coach Sam Allardyce, despite his incredible performance in the 5-2 win over Chelsea last weekend.
He was the only change made from the squad that defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and it was Callum Robinson who replaced him in the starting eleven.
However, Ajayi was introduced for Kyle Bartley with five minutes remaining on the clock, but he did help the Baggies maintain their clean sheet.
Goals from Matt Phillips (35), Callum Robinson (69), and Matheus Pereira’s penalty were enough to give West Brom a deserved win.
West Brom now have a 10-day break before traveling to Midlands rivals Leicester on Thursday 22 April; kick-off 8 pm.
