Lobi Stars handed Champions Akwa United their second defeat of the season, after running away with a 1-0 win when both sides clashed in NPFL week five game in Makurdi.
Substitute Saidu Mubarak’s 83rd minute strike handed their Pride of Benue sweet victory over the Kennedy Boboye’s men.
Mubarak connected with a sumptuous cross from Austin Ogunye’s left side and glanced the header past Akwa United’s goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye.
Akwa United did not offer much in the game and it was their goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye that stood between Lobi Stars and emphatic win.
The former youth international made a countless saves, including spectacular saves to deny Ogba and John Lazarus.
Dele Ajiboye also stopped Ifeanyi Ogba’s 57th minute specialoverhead kick from Gabriel Wassa’s long throw.
Meanwhile, the defeat saw Akwa United dropped to seventh on the log with seven points. They remain a point adrift Lobi Stars who moved to sixth.
