Nigeria international Daniel Akpeyi has thanked Kaizer Chiefs fans for their support all through the campaign.
Kaizer Chiefs fell short in Saturday’s CAF Champions League final as they lost by three gaosl to Al Ahly in Casablanca, Morocco.
Akpeyi was in goal for the minutes of the game, but was unable to prevent the rampaging Egyptians from pumping goals into his net.
In a post on his Instagram page, the former Heartland goalkeeper saluted his team-mates and fans for coming that far in Africa’s elite club competition, adding that he was grateful to have been part of the journey.
“Every champion has once lost a fight. Sadly so, but they’ve never lost their dream no matter the opinion about them, nature do conform to them at the right time.
“To everyone who have being standing with them through thick and thin, I salute your courage, when the limits are broken, all the joy that is assumed to be lost you will receive them in one package. I’m grateful to have come this far,” stated the 34 years old who kept goal for the South African giants throughout the encounter at Stade Mohamed V.
Second-half goals from Mohamed Sherif, Mohamed Magdi Kafsha and Amr Al Sulaya secured the win for Al Ahly of Egypt.
The defeat means Akpeyi will continue to wait for his first major trophy with Kaizer Chiefs.
