Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma played down Hoffenheim’s fixtures congestion but admitted the players must avoid injuries in order to be ready for international duties.
The fixtures are piling up Hoffenheim ahead of the international calendar, which means Akpoguma and his teammates will be in action almost every three days.
Hoffenheim will host the Belgian side Gent in Europa League on Thursday and Akpoguma said, the players must focus on each game and make sure they recover in time for the next one on Sunday.
“Over the coming weeks, the important thing will be to ensure we recover in the days between matches. We need to get as close as possible to 100 percent so that there are not any muscle injuries. To date, we’ve been implementing our plan very well and we naturally hope that it continues like this.” He said.
Akpoguma made his debut for the Super Eagles against Algeria and he could be in the squad for the upcoming 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with Sierra Leone.
