Hoffenheim manager Pellegrino Matarazzo has confirmed Kevin Akpoguma will undergo scan after suffering a head injury while on international duty with Nigeria.
Akpoguma was kicked in the head by Mame Baldé during Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea Bissau in Abuja last Friday, and was substituted in the second half.
The head injury ruled him out of the second leg in Bissau and has since returned to his base in Germany.
Speaking ahead of Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga fixture against Werder Bremen on Saturday, coach Matarazzo, said the defender is doubtful for the tie.
“He suffered a nasty knock on his head,” Matarazzo said. “We will see tomorrow (today) with the results of the MRI scan. We will see tomorrow if it is badly damaged.”
The 27 year-old has been a regular in what seems to be a difficult season for Hoffenheim, who are 15th in the Bundesliga with 22 points from 25 games.
