Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma was the hero as he scored an added-time equaliser to earn Hoffenheim a 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Akpoguma was named among the substitute, but was thrown into the thick of action by the coach in the 87th minute.
Akpoguma replaced Czech Republic international Pavel Kadeřábek who was also lively in attack, despite starting for the his first time in two months.
Embolo gave the hosts the on the 35 minute. The Swiss striker tapped in Herrmann’s corner which was inadvertently flicked on by the head of Munas Dabbur.
The Sinsheimers then almost equalised in the second half when Andrej Kramaric struck the crossbar from close range after a knockdown in the box.
TSG continued to throw everything forward, finally making the breakthrough in stoppage time when Akpoguma popped up free in front of goal to turn in Bebou’s header back into the mixer.
Akpoguma’s goal was their seventh from a substitute this season – a league high. It was also their 12th in the final 15 minutes of games – also a league high.
It means Hoffenheim will at least go into the Rückrunde in fourth place and on a six-match unbeaten run.
