What initially was a big moment for Akwa United, who sealed their first away win of the current NPFL season – and first since their promotion to the top flight – soon turned sour as the victory over Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium was marred by crowd trouble, with officials of both teams caught in the middle of the melee.
Note: Akwa United were awarded three points and three goals against Giwa FC lasts season.

The contest was decided by a single strike, when Christian Pyagbara struck early in 19th minute to hand Pillars their first home defeat since May 2016.

Unfortunately, the home fans could not stomach the loss and vented their frustrations on the Akwa United team bus, hurling missiles after laying a siege at the grounds.

Pillars were quick to release a statement on their official twitter handle, denouncing the behaviour of ” the individuals involved in incidents ”.
