Akwa United defender Etim Matthew eyes win against Heartland

Akwa United defender Etim Matthew is confident his side can pick up another important win against Heartland FC this Thursday.

The Promise Keepers will welcome the Naze Millionaires to the Nest of Champions for week 26 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter.

The former Aiteo Cup winners have picked 31 points from their last 15 games which have left them in 2nd position, two points behind leaders Kano Pillars who lost 2-0 to Rivers United on Wednesday.

A win against the Naze Millionaires will catapult Akwa United to the top of the log.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game Etim Matthew said: “It would be important to win, it would be something special for the whole team.

“We know we have the ability to have a great game against Heartland and we’re performing well in the league so we have to take advantage of it.

“The league is quite long and even though there are many contenders, we cannot discuss it right now. We’ll see at end of the season.”

The Nigerian international is one of coach Kennedy Boboye’s trusted players this season and he is repaying the coach with incredible performance.

Etim Matthew who has three caps for Nigeria lists Kaduna United and Rangers as his former clubs.
