Akwa United hero on historic night speaks on Season’s target

Wisdom Fernando bagged a brace and also provided an assist in Akwa United’s 6-1 routing of Nasarawa United on Thursday and the player is already eyeing more big nights.

Fernando scored the third and fourth goals to close out a four goal lead for the hosts following Friday Ubong (9′) and Adamu Yakubu’s (17′) goals.

Babatunde Martins (57′) and Matib Franklin (79′) completed the scoring while King Osanga (54′) scored the visitor’s only goal.

Akwa United who are defending champions, slipped down in the standings with very little chance of a title defence. This prompted the sack of Kennedy Boboye and a few recruitment to bolster the squad.

Speaking after the game, the Forward said he hopes to get more goals and in particular the important ones which could likely help turn the team’s fortunes around.

“I’m working hard, and I am looking forward to scoring more goals for the team,” He told brila.net.

He also heaped praises on coach Deji Ayeni for his impact on the team, despite joining few weeks ago.

“We are working hard everyday in training, the session has changed now, because we have a new coach here now.

“So we are working hard and also playing as a team better.”
