Akwa United’s defender Etim Matthew admits his side must work hard to avoid shocking results against Adamawa United this evening.
The Promise Keepers host strugglers Adamawa United at the Nest of Champions and they are considered as the favorites for the three points.
Akwa United has not tasted a defeat in any of their last 16 matches and they could extend their record if they win or draw against the visitors.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Etim Matthew told reporters that, he expects his side to win the game, but insisted it is not going to be a stroll in the park for them.
The experienced defender said they will be banking on their incredible home form to see them through the encounter.
“Favourites to win the game? Us. It’s hard to pick a favourite in a game, but playing at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, we’re favourites because we’re at home,” he said.
“We’ve already shown how to beat the best in the league. We have to be ourselves and fight, sweat blood and tears, give our all.
“We have to play our game. They have talented players, but we’re fearless.
Akwa United won the first meeting in Gombe, thanks to a spectacular overhead kick goal from Mfon Udo.
They also won the first league games between both sides 4-0 in Uyo last season.
