Alex Iwobi delivered a crucial assist as Fulham came from behind to seal a 2-1 comeback victory over Southampton, keeping their slim hopes of European qualification alive.
The Cottagers were looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend and did just that at Craven Cottage.
Despite conceding early, Fulham showed resilience to secure three vital points.
Southampton interim manager Simon Rusk made just one change from the side that drew 1-1 with West Ham, with Paul Onuachu missing from the squad.
Fulham made a poor start to the game, falling behind in the 14th minute when Jack Stephens headed home a well-delivered free-kick to give the visitors the lead.
However, Iwobi helped spark Fulham’s revival. In the 72nd minute, the Nigerian international displayed excellent vision and composure to set up Emile Smith Rowe, who slotted home the equaliser.
The turnaround was completed deep into stoppage time when Ryan Sessegnon powered a header into the net from Adama Traoré’s cross, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.
Iwobi was later substituted in the 86th minute after a decent performance.
The win lifts Fulham to eighth place in the Premier League with 51 points, keeping alive their ambitions for a spot in Europe next season.
For Iwobi, the assist marked another milestone in what has been a personal best season. He now has nine goals and six assists across all competitions his highest-ever goal contributions (15) in a single season.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is expected to name Iwobi among the squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in May, a friendly tournament that will serve as preparation for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers.
