New England Revolution continued their fine form in the 2025 MLS season with a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC, thanks in part to a standout performance from Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.
Yusuf, who joined the Revolution last summer from Belgian side Royal Antwerp for €2.3 million, delivered a composed and commanding display at the heart of midfield.

The 24-year-old registered his first assist of the season, setting up Ecuadorian attacker Leonardo Campana for New England’s second goal in the 27th minute with a precise through ball that split the Toronto defense.

Earlier, Carles Gil had opened the scoring with a well-taken volley in the 10th minute, giving the Revolution an early advantage.

Despite periods of pressure from Toronto FC, New England managed the game well, with Yusuf playing a pivotal role in maintaining midfield control throughout the match.

Yusuf’s statistics reflected his overall impact. He completed 94% of his 68 passes, created two chances, and recorded a 100% success rate in dribbles, tackles, and through balls. Defensively, he added two clearances and eight ball recoveries over the full 90 minutes.

Now a consistent starter under head coach Caleb Porter, Yusuf has featured in all 10 of New England’s MLS matches this season.

His performances have been integral to the team’s recent success, which sees them on a four-game winning streak and sitting 9th in the Eastern Conference standings.

Despite his strong form at club level, Yusuf has yet to establish himself as a regular in the Nigerian national team.

He featured for just 13 minutes across the Super Eagles’ recent FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

New England Revolution will aim to continue their upward momentum when they take on Orlando City in their next league fixture.
