Amaju Pinnick leaves Super Eagles door open to Jose Peseiro

NFF boss Amaju Pinnick said the Nigeria Football Federation won’t have a problem appointing Jose Peseiro as the new Super Eagles head coach, but the Portuguese has to show the desire for the job.

The NFF were close to appointing the former Venezuela coach Peseiro as a replacement for Gernot Rohr, but talks broke down and the Federation turned to Augustine Eguavoen.

However, Eguavoen stepped down from the position, after failing to guide the Super Eagles to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on the next step for the team, Pinnick said a foreign gaffer will be appointed and won’t rule the Portuguese tactician out of the job.

“It’s not impossible, but would he want to come? If he would want to come then it would be a major plus for us because it shows that he loves the country.” He said in an interview with Arise TV.

The FIFA council member also revealed that the next manager could be mandated to pick some players from Nigeria Professional Football League.

“I told them in our Executive Committee meeting, are we going to have a percentage of home-based players in any of the Super Eagles lineups? Is it going to be part of the contract of the coach?

“They should look deeply into it because we also need to develop it.” He concluded.
