Women 100 meters hurdle world record holder Tobi Amusan spoke about her early struggles with injury as an athlete and admitted to having loaned $50,000 to aid her career progression.

“Yeah that’s true because I got injured a couple of times, so there was so much I needed to do when It came to my health as a pro athlete and staying on top of my game required a lot of funding,” Amusan said.

She also spoke of her excitement about receiving the Officer of the Order of Niger award (OON) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a chat with BRL, she said it was a privilege that the country finally rewarded her efforts, and it’s a really good feeling for her.

“It’s a great feeling that we are being recognised by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in as much as we did the work it’s an honour that they took to accountability and recognised the fact that we made the nation proud and was such a great feeling getting the title.”

She also spoke about the competition on the race track against other athletes saying that the standard is always high but she is always focused on herself and also on the clock as she is competing to bring the best out of herself.
