Anayo reveals why he wore the iconic number 10 jersey for Super Eagles debut

Enyimba forward, Anayo Iwuala says he was delighted to make his debut for Nigeria and has also disclosed the reason behind his decision to wear the number 10 jersey.

 

Anayo made his senior debut for Nigeria in Afcon qualifiers against the Benin Republic in Port Novo and the player followed it up with another appearance at home to Lesotho last month.

 

The 22-year-old surprisingly don the iconic number 10 jersey worse by legends Austin Okocha and John Mikel Obi for both matches and he went on to wow the fans with some skills.

 

The Enyimba star revealed in a chat with a radio station that he was offered the number 10 jersey and delighted he obliged.

 

“Not really, outside football, the jersey number 10 signifies a special representation of a personality.

“As a player, it’s just normal, we understand that the minute you put on the jersey number 10, in the mentality of football, much is expected from that person.

 

“I didn’t pick it myself, I didn’t pick the jersey. I got to the dressing room and they invited me to take up the jersey number 10.”

 

The 22-year-old will be in action for his club as they take on ES Setif in the CAF Confederations Cup later Sunday.
