Africa’s top ranked Table Tennis player, Aruna Quadri does not consider himself favorite for the 2018 ITTF Nigeria Open.
Quadri is the competition’s top seed and is currently ranked 18th in the world; five places above Egypt’s Assar Omar, who is also considered one of the favorites for the Open holding in Lagos.
The competition which has reached the knock-out stages will see the strong field with the likes of French man Alexandre Robinot, Russia’s Alexey Liventsov and 2018 Commonwealth Games semi-finalist Sam Walker of England coming into the fray.
Speaking with Brila.net the 30-year-old Nigerian acknowledges the strength of the field and stated it was premature to consider any player an outright favorite.
At this year’s edition of the ITTF Nigeria Open, a total of 169 players – 108 men and 61 women – from 27 countries will be playing for honors in the competition, which is also the second highest prize money tournaments in ITTF Challenge Series, with $46,000 up for grabs.
