A transfer expert Dean Jones said Aston Villa are serious in their pursuit of Glasgow Rangers defender Calvin Bassey.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones suggested that the Villans are serious admirer of the Nigerian and Manager Steven Gerrard could use his connection to bring the defender to the Premier League.
It is understood that Rangers want at least £25 million for the 22-year-old, who played over 50 games for the Club last season.
He said, “I think at this stage, Aston Villa seem to be in a good position to negotiate. We’ve already seen Steven Gerrard have a big impact on signings they’ve already got through the door.”
“People are speaking very well about him as a person and Calvin Bassey will be more than aware of what he could bring to his game further, so definitely, the Gerrard effect could work,” He concluded.
Bassey still has three years on the contract signed with the Gers in 2020.
