Chidozie Awaziem got some minutes under his belt as Alanyaspor sealed a place in the Turkish Cup semifinals at the expense of Gaziantep on Thursday.
Expectedly, the defender was named among the substitutes as Coach Felipe Sánchez Mateos kept faith with his preferred Nemanja Milunovic and Furkan Bayir partnership.
However, the game went into extra time and Awaziem got his chance to impress in the 104 minute.
The Nigerian international replaced Turkey defender Furkan Bayir who suffered a cramp, and dead leg.
Awaziem played his part and helped the Bahçeşehir Okulları side maintained their slim advantage till the end of the game.
Turkish striker, Tayfur Bingöl gave Alanyaspor the lead in the 7th minute, but Papi Djibolodji equalised in the added time to send the game into extra time.
Substitute Oğuz Aydim then took matter to his hands and decide the game with an emphatic finish in the 102 minute.
Alanyaspor will now face Kayode Olarewaju’s Sivasspor in the semi-final.
