Awolusi Olaiya is unhappy as Sports Ministry delays the release of funds for Nigeria’s representatives at the Africa Boxing Championship (AFBC) in Brazzaville.

Nigerian Boxer Awolusi Olaiya has lamented on the unavailability of funds as day of the AFBC draws near.

Awolusi was among the twelve selected to represent Nigeria in the tournament scheduled to take place from 17-25 June.

He stated that funds are supposed to have been released, since the idea of preparing well for the championship is to qualify for the AIBA World Championships holding in Hamburg in August.

“The Africa Boxing Championship is starting on Saturday and we have nothing to travel with.

“How are we suppose to move forward if a distraction as this is coming at this stage. It’s so painful that the Sports Ministry haven’t released funds for our trip, I don’t understand why.

“Missing out on the championship in Congo has tossed way our hopes of picking a ticket for the boxing championship slated for Hamburg Germany later in the year, Awolusi told Brila FM,”.

The AFBC championship will serve as the qualifiers for the AIBA World Boxing Championship scheduled for August in Germany.
