Nigeria forward Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed that the conversion of Leicester City player Kelechi Iheanacho from a midfielder to an outright center forward is the reason behind his poor form.
Awoniyi in a chat with brila.net, stated categorically that Iheanacho thrives well in the number 10 position while they both together played at the youth team.
According to Awoniyi, the foreign coaches in England must have seen that he can score goals, which was why he was converted to an outright center forward as a number 9.
”Iheanacho was exposed to a center forward player due to his scoring abilities on the field of play, when I played with him at the youth level, he was best played at the number ten role on the pitch, all of a sudden he became a center forward at Man City, ‘ The Liverpool Forward told brila.net.
Awoniyi also said that if as a center forward you are not getting the goals as expected, It is a normal thing to be losing your confidence, just as it’s happening with the former U17 Golden boy, Iheanacho.
Meanwhile, Taiwo is backing his former teammate to get over this period and return to his amazing form in the shortest period of time.
