Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi was on parade for his Club Union Berlin against Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga encounter on Friday.
The gangling forward started the match and helped his team to a 1 – 0 victory on the day of the 50th Bundesliga appearance.
Taiwo Awoniyi has been red-hot in the penalty box but this team the on-loan Liverpool striker helped the team get out of danger zone.
The Nigerian was later substituted in the 76th minute and replaced by Marius Bülter who was tasked with running the clock down as Leverkusen’s time in possession continued to increase.
When it looked like the match was heading for a goalless draw, Union dug deep to snatched all the points.
Cedric Teuchert scored the winner in the 88th minutes of the encounter and it was his third Bundesliga goal of the campaign and his first since the 5-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld in November.
The Urs Fischer’s men are unbeaten in their last five games and extend the run at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei to eight matches without defeat.
