Awoniyi’s 4th goal of the season saves Union Berlin from defeat

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi continues his impressive form as he netted another goal for Union Berlin against Hoffenheim on Sunday.

The Nigerian who has been in scintillating form in recent weeks helped his team to a 2-2 draw in a Bundesliga game at PreZero Arena in Sinsheim.

Niko Giesselmann gave Union Berlin the lead with just 10 minutes into the match, but the lead only lasted for four minutes as Kevin Akpoguma leveled the game for Hoffenheim.

The Nigerian international defender directed Angelo Stiller’s cross into the back of the net for his first goal of the 2021-2022 Bundesliga campaign.

Jacob Bruun Larsen, then benefitted from a pass from Andrej Kramaric to put Hoffenheim in front for the first time in the 30th minutes.

Awoniyi finally hit the target at the opposite end of the pitch, restoring parity for the visitors three minutes into the second half of the encounter.

It was the 24 years old’s fourth goal in the last three outings with his team, having earlier scored their only goal in opening day’s 1-1 home draw against Bayer Leverkusen and weighed in with a brace in UEFA Europa Conference League 4-0 win at KuPS on Thursday.

Taiwo Awoniyi has now been directly involved in six goals for Union Berlin this season.

He recorded an assist against T.München in the German Cup, before finding the back of net against Leverkusen two days later.

He netted a brace and assist in Union Berlin’s Europa Conference League game against KuPS last Thursday.
