Taiwo Awoniyi was the hero as his goal helped Nottingham Forest secure their first victory of the new Premier League season.

The Nigerian forward grabbed the solitary goal against West Ham United at the City Ground this Sunday.

The former Liverpool forward was such a handful that even Kurt Zouma struggled to cope with his physicality.

The 24-year-old who started his first game for the club since his £18m move from Union Berlin later bundled home in the first half, after Jesse Lingard miscue his effort.

It was Nottingham Forest’s first Premier League goal since Chris Bart-Williams on May 16, 1999.

Steve Cooper’s side however needed Dean Henderson to save Declan Rice’s second-half penalty for them to hold on to the three points.

Nottingham Forest will be back in action on Saturday as they visit Goodison Park to face an Everton.
