Akwa United Coach, Deji Ayeni, is a happy man following the teams’s victory against visiting Gombe United at the Nest of Champions on Thursday.

It was which both teams struggle to maintain sustained momentum, but Akwa United came out tops, edging their visitors 1-0, courtesy of Uche Collins’ 8th minute header off James Ajako’s perfect cross.

The win marked the fourth for Deji Ayemi’s men this season and the Coach expressed delight with his side’s performance.

‘I’m excited that we were able to score and defend till the end. We always go to score many goals, but where we can’t score, we don’t have to concede.

The Coach also defended the low scoreline, saying his should have won by wider margin.

“We created lots of chances, especially in the first half but we could not convert them. We have to continue improving on all observed lapses to ensure we achieve our aim this season.”

Following the win, the Promise Keepers moved up to 4th position in the group with 14 points from 8 games.

Akwa United will take on Shooting Stars in the final fixture of the first half of the season.
