Azubuike Wins Turkish League Title With Istanbul Basaksehir

Super Eagles midfielder Okechukwu Azubuike has won his first league title in Europe after Istanbul Basaksehir defeated Kayserispor 1-0 on Sunday to emerge champions of Turkey.

Azubuike and Basaksehir teammates hit form at the right time and saw off a strong challenge from Trabzonspor to be crowned Champions.

 

Although Azubuike was not listed for the encounter, he was in the stadium to celebrate with his teammates after the final whistle.

Mahmut Tekdemir netted the winner in the 19th minute for Basaksehir and Edin Vusca misses glorious opportunity to double their lead from the penalty spot.

 

Azubuike however featured in 17 league games for the club who finished on top of the table with 69 points from 33 matches.

 

Anthony Nwakaeme’s Trabzonspor finished second with 63 points, but they suffered 4-3 home defeat against Konyaspor last night.

 

Nwakaeme scored 11 goals in 29 league appearances for the club this season.
