Super Falcons star Onome Ebi is delighted to be named Nigerian women’s player of the year at the 2019 Ballers award in Lagos on Sunday.
The Chinese based defender saw off competition from reigning African footballer of the year Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and youngster Rashidat Ajibade to win the converted award.
In a chat with www.brila.net, Ebi who played in her record fifth FIFA world world in France last year said it’s an honor to clinch the award ahead of other teammates.
“Everyone of us deserves it cus we where all outstanding at the 2019 worldcup and clubside so it’s just happens that only one will go home with it. I’m happy”.
The 36 year old defender added that she’s happy to hold the record for most appearance at FIFA world cup, but disappointed with little or no recognition for the feat.
“You can say that again, But still give thanks to God, I did it for myself and my country” she concluded.
Onome Ebi currently play for Henan Huishang in the Chinese Women’s Super League and the Nigerian national team, Super Falcons.
In 2019 she became the first African footballer to play in 5 FIFA World Cup Tournaments
