Balogun announces Wigan exit after six months at the DW Stadium

Leon Balogun has announced his departure from English Club Wigan Athletic a few days after the club was relegated to English league one.

Balogun arrived at the DW Stadium outfit from English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion on an initial six-month loan in January.

After helping the club to climb out of the relegation zone, Wigan decided to acquire Balogun on a permanent basis from the Seagulls, but the joy short-lived as the announced they have entered into administration weeks later.

Wigan were relegated to the league one after being hit with 12 points deduction as a penalty for going into administration and Balogun has now decided to end his contract at the club on mutual consent.

The 31-year-old however thanked the club for their trust and confirmed he will make announcements on his next destination.

“I also want to say thank you and goodbye to Paul Cook and his staff, the team and the whole Tics Family @LaticsOfficial It’s been a very short & super intense time and I’m happy to have played my part in it.”

‘The togetherness, the honesty and warmth of the people in and around the club is simply amazing. I would have wished to end my spell with a different outcome, but unfortunately, that’s beyond our control  now.”

“Regardless I will always remember this as a very special time in my career, in a very special place with a very special club full of very special people.’

“Looking forward to my next football adventure – news coming very very soon.” he said.
