Balogun returns as Gerrard’s men equal 114-year-old Celtic record

Super Eagles Leon Balogun returned to Glasgow Rangers squad for their Scottish premier league game against Hamilton on Saturday.

The Nigeria international was sidelined with an ankle injury for the past 14 days, but he was included in the matchday squad at Hamilton Academically by Coach Steven Gerrard.

Balogun however was left on the bench for the entire duration of the encounter as Rangers secured a vital 2-0 win that helped extend their lead on the table to three points.

It was also Rangers’ sixth consecutive clean sheet at the start of a top-flight campaign that matches the feat of Celtic in 1906.

Rangers scored two goals in quick succession inside 20 minutes inside the first 20 minutes.

Steven Davis’s inswinging cross was headed off the underside of the bar by Kemar Roofe, allowing Hagi a simple finish for his first goal of the season.

The Gers got their second, after Ryan Kent skipp past Scott Martin and cut back on to his right foot for a curling drive that Ryan Fulton could only parry into the path of Tavernier to knock home.

Rangers who equaled the 114-year defensive record in Scottish football sits on top of the league with 16 points from six matches played so far.
