Bassey has everything to be a modern centre half – Van Bronckhorst

Glasgow Rangers manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst says Calvin Bassey has everything to be a top-class center half.

Bassey started his career as left-back but has been deployed to the middle of the defense by the Dutch manager.

The 21-year-old has played every game since Van Bronckhorst arrived, and he’s not preferred to his compatriot Leon Balogun.

Speaking Scotland news outlet, the former Barcelona and Arsenal players said, he’s impressed with the evolution of Bassey and he’s convinced the Super Eagles invitee would be a top player in the future.

“I haven’t seen him play a lot as a left-back. I saw some footage, but in my five games here, he has played as a central defender. I’m really happy with him; he’s got everything for a modern defender.

” He’s very quick, he’s good in the air, physically he’s very strong, and we are just working with him on his build-up play.

“He’s a very good kid, he’s open to learning new things, to be better every game. Bassey is becoming a key player,” he said.
