Bayelsa Queens secure first ever CAF Champions win

Bayelsa Queens got their CAF Champions League campaign back on track with victory over TP Mazembe on Thursday.

The NWFL Champions lost their opening game 2-1 to holders Mamelodi Sundowns, but bounced back to beat the Congolese 2-0 at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Miracle Joseph and Chinyere Igbomalo got both goals for Domo Okara’s team.

The Prosperity Girls started brightly and won a penalty inside the opening 30 seconds, when Miracle Joseph was brought down in the box.

Igbomalo took the responsibility and dispatched the kick emphatically.

The Nigerian Champions put the game beyond their opponents when Juliet Blessing set up Miracle Joseph for the second, two minutes before half hour mark.

Bayelsa Queens missed plenty of scoring chances to extend the lead in the second half, but they managed to hold on to the three points and a clean sheet.

The victory means Bayelsa Queens move up to second in the Group B standing, and a win against Wadi Degla in Rabat on Sunday will guarantee progress to the semi finals.
