Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface has spoken highly of his on-pitch connection with Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz, hailing the young German as a game-changer capable of unlocking defences with ease.
Both players were instrumental in Leverkusen’s memorable 2023/24 campaign, during which the club clinched a historic Bundesliga title, lifted the DFB-Pokal, and reached the UEFA Europa League final.
In an interview with Bundesliga.com, Boniface expressed his admiration for Wirtz, describing him as a dream teammate for any striker.

“As a striker like me, you feel happy every time on the pitch when you have a player like Flo behind you because, in a game, you have one or two chances coming from him. You just have to convert them,” said the Nigerian international.
“He’s a fantastic player to watch and play with. I feel happy to have someone like this behind me. We have a really good connection on the pitch, and I really appreciate it.”
With four matches left in the 2024/25 season, Leverkusen sit second in the Bundesliga, eight points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
While Leverkusen have only lost twice this season, same as Bayern their title hopes have been dented by 10 draws compared to Bayern’s six.
Boniface has contributed eight goals and one assist in 19 Bundesliga appearances so far this season.
Reflecting on the campaign, the 24-year-old admitted it has been solid, but not without regrets.
“It’s been a good season. Compared to what we did last season, everybody’s expecting us to do the same, and we tried.
“We gave everything, and we’re still in the title race, no matter that there are only four games left.
“For me, it’s been a good season, but we could have done better in some games like the DFB Cup. It’s football but, in general, I think it’s an okay season.”
