Brazilian club Botafogo in talks to sign Mikel Obi

Brazilian club Botafogo is looking to acquire the services of former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi in the summer transfer window.

Mikel became a free agent last month after terminating his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor following a dispute with the club management over COVID-19.

The 32-year-old openly criticized the Turkish Super Lig authorities on Instagram for allowing games to continue after many leagues in Europe were suspended, owing to the outbreak.

However, according to reports on Yahoo Sports, Botafogo has been in talks with the Nigerian and is really desperate to reach an agreement with him.

The report also claimed that the Rio club has launched an official proposal, but it remains to be seen if Mikel would accept the offer given the fact that he holds his family dearly.

The former Chelsea star who led Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2013 is currently in London with his daughter and Russian girlfriend.
