Brazilian club Internacional ready to battle rivals Botafogo for Mikel Obi

Brazilian club Internacional is ready to go head-to-head with rivals Botafogo over the signing of former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi.

The 32-year-old has been a subject of intense transfer interest from Botafogo in recent weeks, but it now appears Internacional have entered the race.

According to reports on Mundo Deportivo, Internacional officials have contacted Mikel over a possible switch and it remains to be seen if the Nigerian will join the Porto Alegre outfit.

Mikel confirmed talks with Botafogo last week but he’s yet to make up his mind following a disagreement over financial terms.

The ex-Chelsea star became a free agent last month after terminating his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor over coronavirus fears.

He was a member of Nigeria squad that won the 2013 Afcon in South Africa under Late Stephen Keshi and had 91 caps for the Eagles before retiring from international football in 2019.
