CAA ATHLETES & COACHES WILL BE PAID THEIR DUES – OLAMIDE GEORGE

Athletes & Coaches that represented Nigeria at the fourteenth edition of the Confederation of African Athletics(CAA) championship in Abidjan earlier this year will soon be smiling to the bank as the Athletics Federation of Nigeria(AFN) is hoping to get an approval from the ministry of youth & sports for the remittance of the remuneration due to the athletes & coaches that participated in the championship in April.

This revelation was made known by the acting President of the AFN, Honourable Olamide George at the federation’s secretariat on Tuesday afternoon inside the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja.
The lawmaker noted that the federation will make effort to ensure that every athlete & coaches who were part of the Abidjan championship will be paid their entitlements as soon as they get approval from the ministry for the release of funds.
“I got a letter from the acting Athletes Rep requesting from the ministry for the non-payment of the money due to the athletes that traveled to Abidjan”.
” Hopefully we’ll get an approval of that done this week to pay the athletes & coaches that traveled to Abidjan for the championship”.
Recall that 86 athletes were selected to represent Nigeria at the Confederation of African Athletics championship (CAA) in Abidjan after national trials for the U18 & U20 was conducted in Ilaro Ogun state.
Regardless of the financial challenges the team encountered, Nigeria still finished third in the fourteenth edition of the biennial continental Athletics tournament staged at the Stade Félix Houphöuet – Boigny which started on the 16th & ended on the 20th of April in Côte ‘I’ ivoire.
