CAF Champions League: Enyimba beats FC Rahimo 1-0 in Burkina Faso

NPFL giants Enyimba FC kicked off their CAF Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory against Rahimo FC in Burkina Faso on Sunday afternoon.

 

The Aba Elephants defeated their hosts by a lone goal scored by striker Victor Mbaoma.

 

The Aba Landlords went into the match haven recorded back to back victory over the Burkina Babes in their two previous meetings.

 

This time around, Enyimba started the game on a back foot and did well to contain the early pressure from Rahimo.

 

Enyimba’s first real chance of the game fell to Sadiq Abubakar in the 52nd minute, the forward was set up by Tosin Omoyele but he glanced his shot just wide.

 

Coach Fatai Osho decided to introduce Victor Mbaoma came for Tosin Omoyele later in the second half and the on-loan Remo Stars captain repaid the coach when he broke the deadlock minutes later.

 

Enyimba got the decisive goal in the 76th minute through substitute, Victor Mbaoma when he headed home Anayo Iwuala’s corner kick.

 

The two-time CAF Champions League winner defended well till the end of the match to take the vital into the second leg which will be played at the Aba Township Stadium next weekend.
