A CAF official died after the Super Eagles world cup qualifiers against Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday according to reports.
Reports claimed Dr. Joseph Kabungo who was was CAF’s Doping Officer for the second leg of the World Cup play-off between Nigeria and Ghana passed as a result of shock after violence erupted after the final whistle.
The Zambian medical practitioner, lost consciousness after he was beaten and stepped on as fans try to make their way out of the stadium due to a stampede.
“AFCON 2012 Chipolopolo winning squad Team Doctor, Dr. Joseph Kabungo died last night in Nigeria after Nigeria vs Ghana World Cup qualifier where he was the CAF doping Officer following some fracas that ensued after the match where fans ran riot.Doc go well.” Matimba Nkoje a Zambian Sports journalist confirmed the report on Twitter.
Meanwhile, The Nigeria Football Federation and Confrontation of African Football are yet to confirm the report.
Dr. Joseph Kabungo was the team doctor of the Chipolopolo of Zambia when they won the African Cup of Nations in 2012.
