Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has selected Odion Ighalo ’s goal for Nigeria against the Swallows of Burundi as the best goal ofmatchday 2 at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Shanghai Shenhua striker Ighalo replaced Paul Onuachu in the 73rdminutes of the game and netted the winner from Olaoluwa Aina’s glorious back heeled pass, to send Nigerian fans in Alexandria stadium into rapture.
However, among the seven of the best goals shortlisted for the award, Ighalo’s strike was selected as the best of the round.
While making the announcement of its official Twitter handle, the continent’s football ruling body said, “7 goals to choose from, but only one got our goal of the day accolade – @ighalojude of @NGSuperEagles,” CAF said via @CAF_Online.
The matchday fixtures also saw Uganda defeat DR Congo 2-0, while Guinea and Madagascar settled for a 2-2 draw in the other Group B game.
