Chelsea’s Timo Werner ruled out of Germany’s friendly against Turkey amid COVID19 scare

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has been ruled out of Germany’s friendly against Turkey on Wednesday with a ‘slight cold’.

Germany coach Joachim Low’s assistant Marcus Sorg told the press on Tuesday: ‘Timo Werner has a slight cold and won’t join up with the team today.’

According to Goal’s Kerry Hau, that’s because of “flu-like symptoms”, which obviously could mean something as potentially serious as COVID-19, or something as generally benign as the common flu. As we enter the colder, winter months in the Northern Hemisphere, this is going to be an increasingly common situation, unfortunately.

Hau says that Werner’s test results are pending, though if he’s indeed sick with whatever disease — be that any communicable disease, mild or not — he shouldn’t be going to work. If there’s one thing we learn from this pandemic, it’s hopefully that. Stay home, if you’re symptomatic!

Anyway, hopefully, we hear soon what Timo’s ailment may be, and hopefully, he gets to just stay home and recuperate during this international break.

The report adds that Kai Havertz is set to start for Germany against Turkey, so presumably, he’s doing fine.
