Nigeria’s D’Tigers booked their place in the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Championship after beating South Sudan 75-70 points in Monastir, Tunisia on Wednesday.
D’tigers was led by an interim coach Mfon Udofia and it was a memorable outing for him as the team won all quarters 18-9, 20-21, 19-18, 18-21 on the night.
Ike Iroegbu was the star of the show as scored 16pts, 5 assists and 7 rebounds, while Emegano also scored 15pts, 3 assists and 2 rebounds.
Rookies Chima Moneke was also impressive as he scored 8pts while Amanze Egekeze chipped in 5pts before leaving the court with a suspected injury .
Moneke said after the game : “It was a very hard fought game against South Sudan tonight, I’m familiar with several of their players, so I knew it would be a hard fought game.
“I think they are young, excited, up and coming team that will be great in years to come. Obviously we opened the lead in the first quarter, but they were able to cut it down and take the lead, but we came back stronger to win the game which is obviously the best thing to do.”
Nigeria has already qualified for the main championship but they are scheduled to play against Rwanda Today.
