Chuba Akpom and Middlesbrough are out of the race for promotion to the premier league next season after the play-off semi-final defeat to Coventry City.
Michael Carrick’s side lost 1-0 on aggregate to Coventry in the promotion semi-final playoff.
With the first leg ending goalless at the Riverside, the Sky Blues took the tie in front of their home fans on Wednesday, with decisive strike playmaker Gustavo Hamer in the 57th minute.
Akpom tried all he could to get an equalizer for his side, but Coventry City’s defense stood its ground and sealed Wembley final with Luton Town.
Despite the setback, it was a successful season for Chuba Akpom as he finished as the Championship’s top scorer with 28 goals.
He was also named in the team of the season, winning the player of the year award in the process.
