Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze played the entire duration, but couldn’t save his side Villarreal from suffering 2-0 defeat in the hands of Catalan giants Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday.
Chukwueze was deployed on the left side of the attacking midfield for the yellow submarine and given the task of tracking the Barcelona left full back Jordi Alba, a job he did perfectly.
Goals in each half from Gerard Pique and Carles Alena condemned the Chukwueze and his teammates to their sixth loss of the season.
However, in spite of the defeat the Nigerian international was rated as best performer from the visitors according to Whoscored with a rating of 6.91.
”We’ve competed very well. We can’t lower our heads. We are very happy with the work done.”Villarreal’s manager Javi Calleja stated.
”Sam (Chukwueze) had a great match. He is growing. He is a more and more important player. He is young and confident, he’ll end up learning a lot.”he added.
Chukwueze was the most fouled Villarreal player, winning three fouls, the same number won by Barcelona Captain Lionel Messi and completed team-high five take-ons.
Chukwueze has started all Villarreal’s last four matches in all competitions.
