Samuel Chukwueze helped Villarreal to a 2-1 win against Arsenal, in the Europa League first-leg semi-final in Spain on Thursday.
The Nigerian international played from the start and created Villarreal’s opening goal of the game at the Estadio De la Ceramica.
Villarreal went ahead inside the opening fifth minute through Manuel Trigueros, who converted a pass from Samuel Chukwueze.
The Spaniard struck a first-time shot beyond Bernd Leno after Chukwueze left Granit Xhaka in the cold before passing the ball.
Samuel Chukwueze has now provided five assists in the UEFA Europa League this season, no player has managed more.
Former Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol doubled Villarreal’s lead on 29 minutes after slamming the ball home close-range.
Arsenal, however, got the crucial away goal as Nicolas Pepe converted a penalty after Bukayo Saka was fouled inside the box.
The second leg of the encounter will hold at Emirates Stadium next week Thursday.
