Clarence Seedorf Appointed As Deportivo La Coruna Manager

Clarence Seedorf has taken the reigns at La Liga side Deportivo la Coruna just a day after Cristobal Parralo was sacked, becoming the third coach of the Spanish side this season.

It’s not that long ago that Clarence Seedorf was being overlooked for the management job at League One relegation-threatened Oldham, now he’s got himself a job in La Liga, although at another relegation-threatened side.

Seedorf was one of the best midfielders of his generation and was the first player to have won the Champions League with three different clubs, winning with Ajax, AC Milan, and Real Madrid.

However, his managerial career has not glittered with the same gold that his playing career saw him pick up and he’s only had a brief spell with AC Milan and Chinese side Shenzhen F.C, where he at least won promotion.

Yesterday Deportivo sacked manager Cristobal Parralo, who took over from Pepe Mel in October, after the side’s 5-0 loss to Real Sociedad on Saturday with the club saying:

“Deportivo want to thank Cristobal for his effort, dedication and work in the time he has been the first-team coach.”

Today the club announced Seedorf as his replacement:

The club confirmed the news in another statement saying, “Dutch coach Clarence Clyde Seedorf (Paramaribo, Suriname, April 1, 1976) has become coach of the Real Club Deportivo this afternoon for the remainder of the season.

Seedorf will be presented this afternoon at 8:15 p.m. in the press room of the Abanca-Riazor Stadium.”

Deportivo is currently in 18th place in La Liga, sitting just three points above the relegation zone with Las Palmas and Malaga not too far from Deportivo in the battle to stay up.
