Club v Country Player Row: Pinnick asks NPFL Clubs to ‘Sacrifice for the Nation’

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick has waded in to douse a brewing club versus country row sparked by the decision of Eagles Coach, Salisu Yusuf to stop players in the CHAN camp from this weekend’s league matches.

Pinnick pleaded to the 11 clubs represented in the CHAN Eagles camp urging them to “see this as sacrifice in the interest of the nation.”
“We appeal to Clubs that have players in the CHAN Eagles to see this as sacrifice in the interest of the nation. This is a passionate appeal”


The FA President, who was guest on Channels TV on Wednesday also defended the choice of Kano as camp site and venue of the first leg match against Benin Republic.

According to the quotes on the FA’s official twitter handle, He said “Kano is part of Nigeria. There is nowhere in this country that they watch football more than in Kano. They are hospitable people.”

Nigeria is bidding to reach its third African Nations Championship and will face the Squirrels of Benin in a two-legged qualifying fixture on August 11 and 18.
