CWG 2022: Onwuzurike through to Men’s 200m semi-final

Nigeria’s quest for a medal track and field at the ongoing Commonwealth games receive a big boost as Udodi Onwuzurike qualify for men’s 200m semi-final.

Onwuzurike secured automatic qualification to men’s 200m semis, finishing 2nd in heat 2 clocking 21.18s this afternoon.

The Nigerian started the race brightly and led coming out from the bend, but stuttered a bit which affected his speed.

Pakistan’s Shajar Abbas however took advantage and snatched the lead from Onwuzuruike.

Abbaas did well to maintain his lead and crossed the finished line with the time of 21.12s, while Onwuzurike came in behind.

Another Nigerian, Alaba Akintola also running in heat 7 of men’s 200m secured a 3rd place, crossing the line in 21.28s, but was enough for him to grab qualification into the semifinals.
