Dalung Inaugurates LOC For Guinness World Record Boxing Bout

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung yesterday inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the  Bash Ali’s Guinness Book of Records World Boxing Championship Bout.

The 63-year-old Bash Ali is expected to fight a 23-year old American in a bout which will be the first of its kind in the world.

The minister while inaugurating the committee in Abuja lauded the project, saying it will further place the nation in good light in the world map.

“I call on the LOC and all Nigerians, particularly the private sector to support Bash Ali fight, it will not only inspire our boxers to believe in themselves but will support the efforts to rebrand and improve  Nigeria’s image internationally,” he said.

On his part, former World Cruiser-weight Champions, Bash Ali, expressed his readiness ahead of the bout, adding that his fitness is not in doubt.

“I’am happy that the Guinness Book of Records Fight is coming into reality in Nigeria. The fight was supposed to happen 16 year ago, but because of corruption and bad administration it was not staged.  But I’m happy it is going to be staged in the proper way in Nigeria.

The fight will be 3 months from now because promoters need to make the awareness of the fight all over the world,” Ali said.

The 22-man committee which is headed by Barrister Solomon Dalung is expected to oversee to the galvanizing of all resources through support and funding, marketing and promotion to meet the demand of the approving boxing union logistics and event management.
