Danjuma explains Deborah Abiodun’s bench role

Christopher Danjuma has explained why Deborah Abiodun was left on the bench for the game against South Korea on Sunday.

Abiodun who is the first-choice midfielder was left on the bench as the Falconets edged South Korea 1-0 in their second Group C game at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

Her replacement, Esther Onyenezide eventually got the match winner that secured a quarter-final belt for the team.

When asked to explain the reason behind the omission of Deborah, Danjuma said:

“We came to the world cup and everyone is as good as anyone and players come into the team based on the opponents.”

“We came to the world cup with two attacking midfielders in Deborah and Esther, and so we needed someone to help out we came to hold the ball.”

“So it’s about the opponents and nothing more.” He said.

The Falconets will conclude their Group campaign with the clash with Canada on Thursday.
