Nigerian midfielder, Deborah Abiodun has been loaned from Washington Spirit to Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League for the remainder of the 2025 season.

The American clubs confirmed Abiodun’s move at the weekend, just weeks after the Midfielder signed her first professional contract with Washington Spirit.

Deborah Abiodun joined Washington Spirit in January 2025 on a three-year deal, but her development pathway will now see her gain further experience away from the club until 2026.

The loan agreement includes an undisclosed fee, with Dallas securing the Nigerian international until December 2025.

She will be joined at Dallas by Tamara Bolt, another Washington Spirit player on loan.

Washington Spirit’s President Explains the Move

Mark Krikorian, President of Soccer Operations at Washington Spirit, stated:

“Deborah and Tamara’s loans are part of our development plans as they embark on their U.S. professional careers.”

“They will gain invaluable experience in Dallas this year, and we look forward to their return to the Spirit in the future.”

Abiodun rose to prominence at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was a two-time All-ACC selection.

The 21-year-old played a key role in Pitt’s historic NCAA tournament appearance, earning All-ACC honors under former Nigeria coach Randy Waldrum.

During her college career, she scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists in 34 matches, further establishing herself as a rising star in Nigerian football.

At the international level, the ex-Rivers Angels star has represented Nigeria at the:

2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup
2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup
2024 Paris Olympics

Looking Ahead

The Texas-based club will hope her talent and international experience can help them compete in the USL Super League’s inaugural season.
