Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers was on target as Rangers battled to a 2-2 draw against St. Mirren at the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday.
The result brought an end to a difficult run for Rangers against St. Mirren, having lost their previous two meetings against the Saints.
Dessers opened the scoring for the visitors three minutes before halftime.
Latching onto a precise pass from Nicolas Raskin, the Nigerian international showed great composure and strength to shrug off his marker before calmly slotting home.
The goal marked an important personal milestone for Dessers. Speaking before the game, he had outlined his personal ambition for the season.
“Obviously, you want to score every game. I think I have like 23 goals now for the season. It would be very nice to surpass 25,” Dessers had said during his pre-match press conference.
With 24 goals and 7 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions, the 30-year-old is now just one goal shy of the 25-goal target he set for himself at the start of the campaign.
Although Saturday’s result had no impact on the Scottish Premiership title race already wrapped up by Celtic following their 5-0 win over Dundee United, Dessers’ goal carries personal significance as he looks to end the season on a strong note.
With a few games remaining, Dessers will be eager not only to surpass his goal target but also to help Rangers secure a second-place finish in the league standings.
Looking ahead, the Nigerian forward will also have one eye on the upcoming Unity Cup scheduled for May.
Despite his impressive form this season, Dessers has often been overlooked for national team selections. However, his strong finish could boost his chances of earning a recall to the Super Eagles squad.
